Went in after somebody stole the catalytic converter off my Honda Element. Took it to Ken's. They quoted $900+ . This was about 6 years ago. My car is been running very badly over the past year and it was time for inspection.. well guess what? The catalytic converter had failed. Seems to me like a catalytic converter should last a little longer. The guy that did the inspection, a guy I regularly go to asked me how long ago and how much I paid.... Well not only should it have cost a hell of a lot less considering catalytic converters do not cost that much. They aren't cheap... But $900 +?. The inspection guy the asked me if the catalytic converter was under the hood with the manifold or located along the exhaust. I pointed out that it was located about a third of the way down the exhaust pipe underneath the car easily accessible. Which is one of the reasons it was easily stolen. He said "man you got taken, that price sounds more like what you would pay if it was difficult to access the converter. All they had to do is Jack it up and weld it on. Parts and labor?$400 tops. There are places that would have done it for $250... Where did you take it?" And I said "Ken's on 75 Central Expressway". He asked about warranty and I said I have no idea.. I'm sure I'll call tomorrow about that and find out that I need original receipt. But even then the fact that they charged me $900 in the first place? For a converter that failed so quickly? Makes me wonder. I don't drive this car all over the place. Nor do I drive it overheated or allow issues to go unaddressed. So I doubt that had any effect on the life of the catalytic converter. I'll right back more after I talk to them tomorrow. My main complaint is the price and quality at this point. As to what they can do about it? We'll see.
I gave them 5 stars. I definitely will go back and send people over. Thanks Ken you made my day.
Found Ken's Muffler through searching for the "best" muffler repair shop in Dallas. My 280K mile Lexus had an exhaust pipe leak, so I took it to the shop during lunch break, got a quote (reasonably priced because this same leak happened to my brother's car and it costed the same, in Iowa), and they fixed it right up that afternoon. Ken is an awesome guy--super friendly to talk to and very humble. He's been doing this business for over 40 years!
Clean! Great Service! Great Work! Ken was great. If you want something done make sure u get there early and make sure you ask questions. I called at 5pm, asked Ken if he had time to answer a couple of questions (knowing it was almost closing time for them). He gladly said yes and answered all my questions. 5:15 I rolled up and just to verify I asked Ken to take a look at my car. He said yes, he gave me a ball park figure of the cost and said come early tomorrow and Ill have you out by 12 noon. Well he was not kidding.
I took my 58 Corvette to Ken first time today for a rattling pipe. I spent my 20 years in repair shops, this has been a great experience to me. Front desk had a vintage decoration of their 43 year old business. Ken was a gentleman and a wise guy, it was pleasure to chat with and know him. He fixed my car with a really symbolic price. I think he benefits from the joy of serving customers with his historical shop
Visited the downtown location today. I am not from the area but received great friendly service all at a reasonable price.
The reviews are true, so let's add this one to it as well. Would definitely go here again.
