The problem is the librarians that let noisy people be noisy. Wanna watch a movie on your cell phone without headphones? The librarians don't mind. Wanna listen to your favorite album on headphones loud enough so the whole floor can hear it? Go right ahead.

This is no longer a research library, but more of a low-class Starbucks. Forget trying to study or research here. I emailed management asking why they let this library go downhill they responded with: "I hear your concerns and understand that libraries have changed a great deal from what they were like in the past. In today’s public library, we welcome the community and encourage civic engagement which includes conversations, activities and noise levels that were not found in libraries of the past."

Lots of homeless people hang out here, including myself. That's not the problem.

The second floor is one of the best places for kids in Dallas--books, educational toys, and even free science classes. Best kept secret in downtown.

Wanna snore? Actually that is something the librarians will bust you for. :(

First, you will have to feel comfortable with the urban environment. There is definitely a homeless presence, but they keep to themselves. The police stop by every now and then to keep them moving. Inside is a book, multimedia, and historical wonderland! Besides the usual library fare expected, there is a great collection of important historical artifacts. The only copy of the Declaration of Independence west of the Missippi is located on the Fourth floor. In addition, an original Shakespeare Bibliography is there as well. This, particular bibliography is important for it has the only complete copy of several of Bill Shakespeare's works.

So basically this library is now an urban Starbucks where you can pretty much be as loud as you want, you can talk on your cell phone, you can listen to music without headphones, you can eat loudly and laugh out loud while you watch youtube videos, etc.

I visited this library today. Every employee I encountered was extremely nice, helpful, and professional in helping me with my research needs. Libraries are a privilege to society. As for the reviewers who complained about the homeless, I think that public institutions may not be for you.
