Second time I got an order to go. I guess I'm supposed to eat panang curry with my hands and lick them clean since I didn't get any utensils or napkin. I had hoped to eat it while waiting at the car dealership, instead it just got cold and I ate it once I got home.
I would highly recommended this place if you want authentic Thai food that gives you pretty good portion for the price and won't left you hungry like other Thai restaurants.
5 stars for friendliness and service, 5 stars for authentic and delicious food. We'll be coming back soon.
Summary:
Experiencing street food is awesome in any Asian country, so when I saw "Street Food" in the title, I had to check this place out.
"Sabaidee" means "Hello" in both Thai and Laos.
This place is decent and a good spot for quick takeout whenever you're too tired to cook. Portions are large at a fair price, and the food is good, but it's not the best Lao or Thai food I've ever had. Still, when you're in the middle of Dallas you can't be too choosy and this is a good pick.
The owners are from Laos though I suspect they added "Thai" in the restaurant's name to attract customers because all Americans are familiar with Thai food. Very astute decision in my opinion.
Language lesson of the day:
This place is off the chain! I've been searching many Thai restaurants that were offered authentic Thai food, but no luck until my wife have found this place. So we went there to give this place a try. The result was very pleasing to us. The food was great and very close enough to authentic Thai food. The taste was very intense and that what I am looking for in Thai food. The portion is fair enough for the price especially during lunch special. I have to see the portion during dinner.
Been here twice. Food was good. First time I ate there. Seating is stools at a counter. The counter was dirty, and the man and woman behind the counter just stood around on their phones instead of cleaning the counter where customers sit. The other person eating there finished up, and the girl came out, pushed in his still but still left the counter dirty. The counter if white, btw, so there is no missing that it's dirty. When my food was ready, it was put in front of me, right on the dirty counter.
Same, same but Different:
They have the food part down - but need to focus on the basics of customer service - a clean spot if eating there, and a way to eat your food if you aren't.
I would give this place 5 stars, but I have to give a 4 stars because lack of seating. Most of the seats are counter seats by the window, but I would preferred seating at the table.
The food was fantastic. Deeeee-licious. And it's nice to get authentic Thai/Lao food in the states. The lady who served us was ultra friendly (forgot her name but was from Mongolia). Actually, if you ever have the chance to visit Thailand or Laos, you'll experience some of the friendliest people in the world.
Having spent a couple of months traveling through both Thai and Lao and having the local food, maybe my opinion might count for something here. The people on both sides of the border look the same, speak a similar dialect and, relevant here, have similar cuisine.
I worked here for one freaking day but only because I couldn't get a ride back and forth but let me tell you I loved it, the food is amazing, the workers were great inviting people, the Thai ice tea is freaking addictive I can seriously go on and on, but I would give anything to work here again but if you haven't checked it out you should it's a great cozy modern little spot with great food and people !
