I agree with you. The same thing happened to me. I rented a car in Feb and charged my card on March. I don't know what kind of scam is this - I could not reach them by phone even after trying several times.
Thought I would try them out because they had the best rate online. When I went in for my prepaid car rental for 219 for the week, I was advised the total would actually be 407 with a 50 dollar deposit. When I advised the clerk that I had already had a confirmation number and was not trying to get a rental but simply pick up my reserved VW Jetta that had already paid for (It was deducted from my account.) The clerk then became very rude and suggested for that rate she would need to run my credit and could give the rental at 379 for the week. If anyone knows about your credit a Hard inquiry is never good and your credit should be protected like cash. I refused and asked for my cash back, I made my was to Enterprise where the customer service was exceptional and I was given a better car 2016 Jeep Cherokee Vs older VW Jetta ... Never again ,,,,, They weren't even cheaper, they rack up the price once you get there.
